Manchester United won 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Manchester United scored a late winner to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Juan Mata proved the hero as the Spanish international came off the bench with 27 minutes of normal-time to play. But the former club-record signing wasted little time, scoring what proved to be the winner just four minutes later.

Mata netted with a fine left-foot drive and could have had a second only to see his effort rebound off the post.  But that did not ultimately matter and United's victory meant they got their first three points in three attempts, having previously drawn with Chelsea and lost to Manchester City.

United moved up to sixth as a result of their win, two points outside a top four that they are desperate to get back into...and this time remain a part of.

As for Palace, their resolute defending almost saw them head back to London with a point, but instead Neil Warnock's side remain on nine points, in the midst of a relegation scrap.
