Real Madrid president Florentino Perez feels that the former Manchester United hero is now a club legend.

Cristiano Ronaldo has received arguably his biggest compliment since joining Real Madrid from Manchester United, as president Florentino Perez has labelled him a Madrid legend and a worthy successor to club great Alfredo Di Stefano.

The 29-year-old has performed miracles in the Spanish capital since making his record-breaking £80 million move and his ability level from his time with the Red Devils has improved tenfold.

This season, numerous La Liga records – including one dating back to 1935 - have been shattered due to his goal scoring antics and there are more on the horizon.

Lionel Messi’s 50-goal La Liga haul looks under threat, and the Portuguese winger is just one goal shy of Raul’s 71-goal Champions League record.

The superlatives to describe Ronaldo were beginning to run out during that his final two years with United at Old Trafford. Now, there is little, if anything, left to say.

However, club president Perez did his best during a recent conference as he sang the praises of his current side and left a special mention to his star player.

“We’ve got an excellent coach and a worthy successor [Ronaldo] to Di Stefano, who just won the Ballon d’Or for the second time and is already a Madrid legend," he is quoted as saying by the Spanish publication AS.

Di Stefano netted 307 goals in 396 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants , helping the club win numerous trophies including a unrivalled five successive European Cup.

He spent 11 years at the Santiago Bernabeu and was awarded the Spanish Golden Player award in 2003 as recognition as the most outstanding player over the previous 50 years.

Ronaldo, on the other hand, has scored an amazing 274 goals in 262 matches for Los Blancos since making his debut in 2009 and is closing in on Di Stefano's feat.

Despite winning a number of personal awards in the Spanish capital, with just one La Liga trophy and one Champions League success there is undeniably room for more trophies in his illustrious trophy cabinet.
