Poyet drops hint about two players he could bring back into the team

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has hinted that Adam Johnson and Jack Rodwell could come back into the team against Everton this weekend.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet says that Jack Rodwell and Adam Johnson could be part of his starting line-up again when the side take on Everton this weekend.

The Black Cats may have got a crucial victory against Crystal Palace in their last match, but Poyet is seemingly not resting on his laurels.

Instead he is open to bringing in Rodwell and Johnson as he feels that the two can offer the team new energy.

“Maybe we need Jack back or Jonno to give us that lift we need," he said to the Sunderland Echo. "We’ll see."

Johnson and Rodwell watched from the sidelines as Sunderland picked up a 3-1 win over Palace on Monday night.

It was a result which pushed them out of the relegation zone and they will be determined to continue looking up the Premier League table now.

The Black Cats have been in disappointing form during the season so far and the aforementioned duo have been two of their biggest under-performers.

Johnson showed his top form towards the back end of the last campaign, but he has been well off the pace.

Rodwell, meanwhile, was the club's marquee signing this summer, but he has not shown his worth yet on a consistent basis.

The central-midfielder can be excused slightly because of his lack of first-team football over the past two years, but the will know that an improvement needs to be made quickly.

If the pair do start against Everton it will be a tough test of their credentials.

Although the Toffees aren't in the position in the table they would have hoped to be in at this stage of the season, they are starting to pick up form and have a lot of quality at their disposal.

Roberto Martinez's men are now unbeaten in their last five fixtures in all competitions and they will be looking to extend this good spell of form on Sunday.
