Matthew Etherington has been analysing Tottenham Hotspur’s performance under Mauricio Pochettino so far this season.
Pochettino’s appointment as the Tottenham boss in the summer was perceived as a hugely positive move from the club, but the Argentine has yet to impress at White Hart Lane.
‘They have been really hit and miss so far’, former Spurs winger Etherington told The Stoke Sentinel. ‘I watched their first game of the season at West Ham and West Ham were unlucky not to win.
‘Mauricio Pochettino's teams were always on the front foot at Southampton and nicking the ball off you in dangerous areas. But it doesn't seem to be working the same yet at Tottenham for him’.
During his time at Southampton, 42-year-old Pochettino made the Saints one of the better sides to watch in the Premier League and played confident, attacking football.
Although the former Espanyol coach has retained that philosophy, he has yet to achieve positive results at Tottenham.
Perhaps it is a case of working with a new team that has also seen some players come in the summer transfer window. Or maybe it is a case of the Tottenham players simply not stepping up their game.
What has been most frustrating about Tottenham is their lack of consistency. It has been a stop-start season for Spurs so far, and they do need to pick up momentum sooner rather than later.
