Manchester United great Paul Scholes explains how Daniel Sturridge’s injury return will help Steven Gerrard

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes that Steven Gerrard will prove valuable for Liverpool once Daniel Sturridge returns from his injury.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will start to recover his form once Daniel Sturridge is back in action.

Star striker Sturridge has been sidelined since September with a thigh injury he picked up on international duty with England.

The 25-year-old is expected to regain full fitness soon, and Scholes claims that the former Chelsea star’s return will help get the best out of Gerrard.

‘Teams are only as good as their strikers and Liverpool’s have not been good enough since they sold Luis Suarez and lost Daniel Sturridge to injury’, he wrote in The Independent.

‘A player like Gerrard thrives on having a striker who is always on the move, opening up angles with the intelligence of his running. When Sturridge comes back he will give them that’.

Sturridge’s return will indeed be a boost to Liverpool. The former Manchester City man’s mobility and runs behind defenders are being solely missed by the Reds, as Mario Balotelli does not provide that - well, not consistently enough.

Gerrard has been modified to become an anchorman in midfield, but from that position he can certainly pick out Sturridge with his long balls.
