How Tottenham Hotspur gave Wales rugby star Sam Warburton a ‘very good’ birthday present

Wales rugby union star Sam Warburton attended Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash against Southampton in October on his 26th birthday.

Tottenham Hotspur have not won too many matches so far this season, but one game that they did pick up three points from was against Southampton.

It was Sunday, October 5, and Spurs edged past the Saints 1-0 at White Hart Lane in the Premier League.

Christian Eriksen’s 40th-minute strike saw Tottenham end a run of four league games without a win, and made a certain Sam Warburton a very happy man.

The 26-year-old Wales international rugby union player was at White Hart Lane for that match and was delighted to see his team win.

‘I went up to White Hart Lane and watched Tottenham win 1-0 which was a very good birthday present indeed’, the Cardiff Blues flanker told Sky Sports.

That win was expected to spur Tottenham on to greater things, but so far Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled for consistency.

Heading into this weekend’s round of matches, the North London club find themselves eighth in the Premier League table with 14 points from 10 games, three points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
