Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner reacts to Gary Lineker’s ‘joke’ tweet

Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner scored twice for Wolfsburg in the Europa League on Thursday, but he still could not prevent ex-Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker from making fun of him.

Nicklas Bendtner may have left England, but the former Arsenal striker still remains a subject of ridicule.

The Denmark international was on the books of the Gunners from 2004 until 2014, when he was finally let go.

During his time at Arsenal, Bendtner struggled to score goals and retain consistency in his game, and was widely seen as a ‘flop’.

Following his released by Arsenal in the summer, the 26-year-old joined Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg. However, things did not seem to improve until Thursday evening when he scored his first goals for his new club.

Bendtner came off the bench to find the net twice in Wolfsburg’s 5-1 victory over Krasnodar in the Europa League. They were his first goals since January 2014, and understandably made him relieved and happy in equal measure.

Great performance from the team today. Happy with my first goals. Big thanks to the fans, you have been fantastic from day one. I want to build on this and keep going.

News of Bendtner’s exploits for Wolfsburg did not take long to reach England, and former Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker posted a rather sarcastic tweet.

Bendtner, though, took it in good humour.
