Chelsea and Liverpool keepers have fierce rivalry, are 'not friends'

Tomorrow will see Simon Mignolet and Thibaut Courtois go goalmouth-to-goalmouth at Anfield.

Liverpool welcome Chelsea to Anfield on Saturday, seeking retribution for the same fixture last year - in which Liverpool's title hopes were essentially dashed by Jose Mourinho and co.

But while this grudge match goes on it will of course not be the only one.

Because the opposing goalkeepers are not exactly the best of friends, despite being international team-mates.

Simon Mignolet and Thibaut Courtois are the number two and number one goalkeeper's, respectively, for the Belgian national side - but that does not mean the Liverpool and Chelsea man are best of friends.

Far from it.

The two are not believed to be close pals and earlier this year got embroiled in a series of ugly off the field comments about one another.

It started to boil up back in February when Courtois claimed that Mignolet had 'no respect' for him after the Liverpool man questioned his number one position to the Belgian media.

Belgium manager Marc Wilmots even got involved, saying he didn't care whether the pair were friends, which they are clearly not.

"They are not friends but should they be? They behave like pros, working well in training. That's all I desire.

"But It doesn't matter who you are, as soon as that respect goes it ruins the atmosphere."

It is certainly one of the more interesting modern rivalries between two players and will play a wonderful back drop to tomorrow's entertainment.
