Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand has suggested getting players fit will help Louis van Gaal's side.
Manchester United legend Paddy Crerand has suggested that getting everyone fit is the key to the side’s top four chances.
United have been plagued by injuries since the start of the season, which has stopped manager Louis van Gaal from being able to name a settled side as the club look to get back into the Champions League for next season.
However, Crerand has suggested that anything is possible if van Gaal can get players fit and pick a side consistently.
“It's just a case of getting everyone fit. United can go on a long run of games and we've got to see that happen. It will happen, I'm confident of that,” he told the Manchester United website.
“If we get an injury-free spell and the manager gets a settled team then that will make a huge difference.”
“We want to be in the Champions League, of course we do. Everybody does, and getting back there is our big aim this season.”
Various reports have suggested that a top four place by the end of the season is important to what United are hoping to achieve looking ahead to this coming summer.
Sponsors and advertisers would have been shocked when the side missed out on the top four under David Moyes and their patience for European football to return to Old Trafford is being tested to the limit.
It’s important for United off the pitch to get back into Europe’s top competition and it’s also important off the field that the medical personnel at the club continue to work hard to get key players fit and available as soon as possible.
United have suffered their worst ever start to a Premier League season but as players return to fitness and become available for selection, the options and quality in various positions should improve.
