Kolo Toure on how Liverpool can dent Chelsea's season

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has suggested the Reds can affect Chelsea mentally this weekend.

Liverpool centre back Kolo Toure has explained how his side can affect Chelsea in the Premier League title race.

Chelsea are the clear leaders at the top of the league, with Liverpool’s inconsistency having seen them slide down the table.

There have been suggestions that Chelsea could repeat the achievement of Arsene Wenger’s Arsene and go through the season unbeaten, with Toure suggesting that the key to Chelsea’s success is their mental strength.

“They have a good team and with the squad they have of course they can do it. But it's not the only quality. It is about mentality. Every game is challenging and sometimes things don't go well for you but you need to be able to come back and carry on fighting,” said Toure.

Liverpool have a great chance to make a statement of intent this weekend when the Blues travel to Anfield.

If Brendan Rodgers’ side are able to play well and win that game, it could be the first dent to Chelsea’s mental strength looking ahead to the rest of the season.

Chelsea can afford to lose a game and stay top of the league but considering how well they played at Anfield last season, there would certainly be a knock on effect in terms of Chelsea’s mentality.

While Liverpool can deliver that blow, it’s also important they don’t take their eyes off of their own results and performances, which haven’t been great in recent weeks.

Not only will a win be mentally damaging for Chelsea, it can help out a bit of positive belief back into the current Liverpool team and get them moving in the right direction.

If the Reds play Chelsea off the park this weekend, it will be shocking for Jose Mourinho, who is normally one of the best tacticians in the game.

While the result won’t have a direct impact on where the league title ends up, a win for Liverpool will show that Chelsea aren’t invincible and that will give belief to other teams.
