Nemanja Matic would like to continue his goalscoring form throughout the season.
Chelsea were held to a 1-1 draw in Slovenia last night, as NK Maribor proved they are more than simply the whipping boys of their Champions League group. They have already recorded draws with Sporting Lisbon and Schalke 04 recently - so this was yet another feather in their cap.
Of course they had much to thank goalkeeper Jasmin Handanovic for, after the goalkeeper made several excellent stops to deny Chelsea victory - including a save from an Eden Hazard penalty.
In the end only one man could put the ball behind the veteran stopper - that man was Nemanja Matic.
The Serbian received plenty of praise for his standard of play going the other direction. However, as an attacking threat, he is rarely mentioned.
But he does have a wicked left-foot when he needs to and his aerial presence makes him a nuisance for any opponent.
It was this ability that saw him score the Chelsea equaliser yesterday. It was Matic's third goal of the season - which is prolific for his usual standards. His previous best is four back in 2012-13 with Benfica - so it looks as though the defensive midfielder is set to have his best goalscoring season yet.
He certainly would like that.
Speaking to the official Chelsea website after yesterday's game he made it clear that he had plans to score plenty more for the club.
"We scored but we didn’t take our chances to win at the end. We didn’t use the penalty and some other chances but I think that 1-1 is an okay result for this game.
"John Terry jumped very well but I think without my touch it was a goal also,’ he insisted. ‘This is the space that I like to go and I just used the good ball that John gave me. I will try to continue like this and hope that I will score some more goals."
One more and he levels his best ever season tally. No doubt that Matic will achieve that feat this season.
