Arsenal legend Martin Keown has warned Manchester United that winning the Premier League title next season could be tougher.
The Red Devils are currently 13 points behind leaders Chelsea in 10th place in the league table, and few are backing Louis van Gaal’s side to reclaim the title this term.
United fans will probably be happy if the team finish in the top four and will want to go all-out for the championship next season.
Keown, a former England international defender, believes that the Manchester outfit will be much closer to winning the title next season but may miss out once again.
‘Next season I expect them to be much closer but they are up against a Chelsea team who are currently close to perfection’, he wrote in The Daily Mail.
‘But this time next year I think Mourinho will be much more fearful. He’ll have had much more time on the training ground to impart his knowledge and will surely bring in some reinforcements’.
At this moment in time, Chelsea and Manchester City are the two top favourites to win the Premier League title this season, and the duo are likely to be the frontrunners for the championship next campaign.
On paper, United have a very good attackline, but defensively they need to make some key changes.
It is too early to write off the Red Devils’ chances of winning the Premier League title in 2015-16; after all, Van Gaal is likely to add new players in the summer.
