Tottenham latest: Reported target is 'a bit mad,' Adebayor & Kaboul don't travel

The latest Tottenham Hotspur transfer news, views and rumours.

Teo Gutierrez

South American football expert Tim Vickery has branded reported Tottenham target Teo Gutierrez 'a bit mad.'

Spurs have been linked with a January move for the Colombia striker, with their current crop of forwards short of goals - except for Harry Kane, who can't currently buy a start in the Premier League.

But Vickery, a pundit for the BBC among others, has warned that his age and the fact that he is 'a bit mad' could prove potential stumbling blocks for Tottenham.

"They would get him relatively cheap but, number one, he is 29, number two, he has already been to Turkey and didn't really settle there and, number three, he is a little bit mad," Vickery told talkSPORT.

"He has bounced around clubs in Argentina and his spell at Racing Club came to an end when in the dressing room he pulled a gun on the goalkeeper and captain. It turned out to be a toy gun but Sebastian Saja, the goalkeeper, wasn't to know that at the time!

"He is a bit headstrong and you wonder if he comes under the 'not for export outside of South America' category. Personally, I think there are more things against than in favour."

Team news

Meanwhile, Emmanuel Adebayor, Aaron Lennon, Kyle Naughton and Younes Kaboul have not traveled to Greece with the rest of the Spurs squad for their Europa League clash with Asteras Tripolis.

The news could mean Harry Kane will start against Asteras - and be benched again in the Premier League this weekend.

"Aaron Lennon is not here, Kyle Naughton is not here, Younes Kaboul is not here," boss Mauricio Pochettino said when asked specifically about Adebayor.

"It is the same situation. I decide the list for those coming to Greece and the players here are the players in the squad that will play.

"Okay, yes, it is a reality that Adebayor has not travelled in three games from England, to Limassol, Partizan Belgrade and here. For every single mission, for every single trip, we have our organisation and selections. We are ready."
