Sheffield Wednesday supporters have been left frustrated by Royston Drenthe's red card, which may have cost them the game against Bournemouth.
Royston Drenthe has frustrated Sheffield Wednesday supporters after picking up a red card in the club's 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth last night.
Goals from Andrew Surman and Ryan Fraser gave the Cherries a win which puts them top of the Championship, but it was Drenthe's red-card which really turned the match.
Although the decision to produce a second yellow was a controversial one, the Dutchman should have known better than to dive in whilst on a yellow and he was made to pay for it.
Drenthe will now miss this weekend match against Rotherham United and his absence is a frustration given he has had to wait so long for his chance.
The Reading loanee was not entrusted to play a starting role for the side until their match against Charlton last weekend and he looks set for another match on the sidelines after this ill discipline.
The Owls have been on a poor run of form and they are now winless in nine matches across all competitions.
This is largely because of the lack of goals in their side and being without arguably their biggest attacking threat for a Yorkshire derby is a concern.
It is also something which is very frustrating for the supporters of the club, who have been left annoyed by Drenthe's actions.
Here is the best reaction to the winger's sending off and performance on Twitter.
Poor day for #SWFC,as bad as I've seen this season,Drenthe challenges were silly but yet again we looked devoid of creativity and goals.— Danny Gooderson (@DGood83) November 4, 2014
drenthe made the refs decision easy. Stop diving in. We need to give our selfs a chance by keeping the ball upfront. #swfc— Gary Abbey (@garyabbey44) November 4, 2014
That performance was a joke, 1st half was ok, but 2nd half we crumbled especially after Drenthe got sent off. Big improvements needed! #swfc— George (@Georgeswfcsmith) November 4, 2014
Drenthe is turning more and more like JJ every game now he gets a red card #swfc— Rob (@RobHirst9) November 4, 2014
Taking nothing away from a dire performance, but that sending off totally changed the game. Never a foul or 2nd yellow for drenthe #swfc— Wayne ☼ Jackson (@waynejackson84) November 4, 2014
Drenthe ultimately cost wednesday the game, decent player, but liability. More brains in a pork pie. #swfc— Dan Mclean (@DanMclean_) November 4, 2014
Yet again, not good enough going forward. No urgency. No good blaming Mike Dean, as bad a decision as Drenthe's red card was. #swfc— Chris Emsell (@Christoph0512) November 4, 2014
Ridiculous tackle from Drenthe, is he brain dead or what? #swfc— Scott Wilkes (@scottwilkes88) November 4, 2014
Drenthe's goal on Saturday was reminiscent of JJ. His sending off for 2 stupid yellows tonight was even more so. #swfc— Peter Dadswell (@Dadders) November 4, 2014
Just back from Hillsborough, Sheff Wed well below par tonight. The one player they didn't need to go off was Drenthe. Big miss for Sat— Paul Walker (@Walkerpw) November 4, 2014
