Liverpool morning news: Rodgers suggests problem, Suarez claims teammate was preferred striker

A round up of news stories this morning about Liverpool.

Brendan Rodgers has remained stubborn over accusations he rested key players for the game against Chelsea this weekend.

The Liverpool boss chose to bench several regular first team stars as Liverpool lost their third Champions League game in a row, 1-0 away at Real Madrid.

“Tonight gives me great food for thought. It wasn't players rested as such, we played the team we thought could get the result,” said the boss.

Rodgers has suggested one of the main problems facing his side is the fact that several new young players are coming into the team.

“People obviously don’t know a lot of the players well. There are a lot of new young players that were adapting into the team and the squad,” said Rodgers.

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez says he only played through the middle as a number nine when Daniel Sturridge wasn’t available.

Suarez has suggested that Sturridge was the first choice centre forward when he was at Anfield.

“Look at Liverpool. I only played 9 when Sturridge wasn't there. I'm well used to wings,” said the striker when asked about not playing up front for Barcelona.
