The Reds traveled to Spain to face defending European champions Real Madrid in the Champions League last night, eventually losing the group game 1-0.
But there was a discipline and energy to this Liverpool side that had been absent throughout their campaign, with boss Brendan Rodgers having rested several first-team regulars.
And Aldridge's reaction on Twitter said it all:
1st time in my life I'm happy with a 1-0 defeat!!bring on chelski.— John Aldridge (@Realaldo474) November 4, 2014
Many Liverpool fans had feared the worst going into the tie at the Bernabeu. After Madrid had beaten the Reds 3-0 at Anfield with considerable ease, the expectation was another drubbing at the very least.
But Rodgers' side fared rather well. And anyone expecting more simply hasn't watched them this season.
Now, Aldridge is looking ahead to another big game, when Chelsea visit Merseyside this Saturday lunchtime.
Will Liverpool, though, be able to defend against the Premier League leaders as well as they did in Spain?
