Kolo Toure has been speaking following his heroics for Liverpool against Real Madrid.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has been speaking following his fine performance against Real Madrid on Tuesday.

The Ivory Coast defender has come in for plenty of criticism during his time at Anfield but against the reigning European champions he was a cut above.

Real may have won the match 1-0 but Cristiano Ronaldo barely got a sniff against the Ivorian and it has led to widespread praise for the 33-year-old.

The Liverpool defender has since spoken about his performance in an interview with the Liverpool Echo and it is fair to say he was happy with the experience.

“I have missed games like this,” Toure said. “I play with my heart and I’m ready to fight for my club. I know we lost but I am very happy because we played a really good game.”

Liverpool were ultimately undone by a Karim Benzema goal that means Brendan Rodgers' side have just three points from their first four Champions League group games.

But with the double-header against Real out of the way Liverpool will be focusing all the efforts on winning six points in their remaining fixtures against FC Basel and Ludogorets Razgrad.

Speaking about those matches Toure said, “I definitely believe we can do it. If we play with our quality and our heart then we will win those matches.”
