Harry Kane: How Gareth Bale inspired me during Spurs training

The Tottenham Hotspur striker tries his best to emulate the Real Madrid star in practice.

It is no surprise that the world's most expensive footballer serves as an inspiration to many.

What is more rare is being able to say you trained with that footballer - and were inspired by him in person.

That's exactly the situation Harry Kane is in, with the Tottenham striker having seen Real Madrid star Gareth Bale first-hand during Spurs training.

Now, the 21-year-old says he looks to emulate him by practicing shots from outside the area. And, so far this season, you'd have to conclude that it is working.

“It is an inspiration, for sure,” Kane told the London Evening Standard. “I watched him day in, day out, saw how hard he practised and then saw the results when he played for Tottenham. Then he gets his dream move to Real Madrid.

“After training he would always be there, setting up the mannequins, taking free-kicks and working on his finishing. You saw what happened: he became an unbelievable finisher from outside the box and from free-kicks.

“That’s why I work at these aspects of my game. I’ve been practising the free-kicks for some time. I saw Gareth doing it day in, day out in training and I tried to copy it. He’s got a great technique that’s worked for him and I thought: ‘Why not?’

"I’ve always been quite a good finisher from outside the box and that’s something I practise as often as possible, too. I might take five, 10, 20 or 50 shots. It’s about working on your technique so if the chance comes in a game, you’re ready to take it.”
