Harry Kane explains Tottenham's more likely route to success?

The Tottenham Hotspur striker was commenting on his side's ambitions and priorities during the current campaign.

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has placed great emphasis on the Champions League spot available to the winners of the Europa League.

And, in so doing, the 21-year-old may just have hinted at Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino's priorities for the season.

Kane says 'everyone knows' Tottenham want a Champions League spot - and the Europa League may just offer a more realistic chance of getting one than the Premier League right now.

“The Champions League spot available to the winners of the Europa League makes it more important. Everyone knows we want Champions League football and we need to find a way to get there," Kane told the London Evening Standard.

“Is it realistic to think we can win it? I don’t see why not. Hopefully we can build a bit of momentum and if we do get out of the group phase, I don’t think many clubs will want to play us in the knockout stages."

But far from just explaining what Pochettino would like to achieve, do Kane's quotes hint at why the Argentine has been making the decisions he has been - particularly with Kane himself?

The 21-year-old is Tottenham's top scorer this season in all competitions but can't buy a Premier League start. If Pochettino, however, is prioritising the Europa League, is he simply starting Kane in that competition because he doesn't want him to use his energy in the Premier League?

It would be difficult to fathom a Spurs boss deliberately sacrificing domestic football, although nothing says 'let's rest the first team' by playing Emmanuel Adebayor up front on current form...
