Aston Villa have completed the signing on non-league defensive star Ben Swift.
The young centre-back had been on a trial period at the club over the past few weeks and it seems that he did enough to impress the staff that he would be a good addition for the future.
The 17-year-old had caught the eye of Villa's scouting team with his performances for Maidstone United so far this season and it seems that the Claret and Blue believe that he could have a Premier League future.
Swift will sign a six-month youth-contract at Villa and Maidstone's academy manager, Jack Parkinson, was delighted for the youngster to have completed his move.
"I think Villa is the best deal for Ben," Parkinson told Kent Online. "He's settled in there and he knows what it's all about. If he'd gone somewhere else, he'd have had to start all over again.
"It's fantastic for everyone involved with the club."
Swift is unlikely to come straight into the first-team at Villa, but he will be hoping to do enough to impress in the future.
It may be good that he starts life away from the first-team, too, as they are under severe pressure at the moment.
Paul Lambert's side have lost their last six Premier League matches and serious questions are starting to emerge about what direction the club's season is heading in.
Swift can take encouragement from the development of players like Jack Grealish, after he made his way from the youth-team into the senior squad this season.
