Manchester City might have ended their three-game winless run on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over rivals Manchester United, but they know failure to beat Champions League opponents CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night at the Etihad Stadium would send things back into crisis mode.
Having let a 2-0 lead slip in Moscow a fortnight ago to draw 2-2, Manuel Pellegrini’s side currently sit third in Group E behind Bayern Munich and Roma, and need three points in order to stand them in good stead for their final two matches.
City will have to make do without the services of injured playmaker David Silva, however, who has been ruled out for four weeks after going down with a knee injury in the 2-0 Capital One Cup defeat to Newcastle United last week.
The Spaniard is set to be joined on the sidelines by left-back Aleksandar Kolarov, who faces a month out after suffering a calf strain in the warm-up prior to Sunday's derby win, while Frank Lampard is not yet ready to return from a thigh problem.
Centre-back Eliaquim Mangala, who also missed the derby with a hip issue, has been passed fit for Wednesday, though, while the recently returned Samir Nasri is in contention to join him in the starting line-up.
The Frenchman and his teammates were put through their paces today in training ahead of the crucial clash against their Russian opponents, with the following images being some of the best from their final session.
