Paul Merson slams ‘tactically clueless’ Arsenal for drawing with Anderlecht in Champions League

Arsenal

Paul Merson strongly criticises the Arsenal players for failing to hold onto a three-goal lead against Anderlecht in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Paul Merson was a very frustrated man following Arsenal’s dramatic collapse against Anderlecht at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

The Gunners seemed to be cruising to an easy win against the Belgian side in the Champions League Group D clash.

Goals from Mikel Arteta, Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain saw Arsenal take a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead by the hour mark, but the Premier League outfit conceded thrice in the final 30 minutes.

Merson, a former Arsenal star, was frustrated with the players’ lack of discipline to hold on to a 3-0 lead and severely criticised them.

‘I’m being honest’, he told Sky Sports. ‘I think they are tactically clueless. That’s an honest opinion.... It is absolutely clueless...

'For me, the manager has got to get a message on and got to say... These are not little kids, these players have played for their countries, they have played in the World Cup’.

Arsenal are currently second in Group D with seven points from four matches, five points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
