Mehdi Abeid has finally broken into the Newcastle side, starring in back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Liverpool.
The 22-year-old stepped up, and showed that he may just make his career at the club a success, after previous loan spells away had failed to indicate he would ever crack it.
Abeid played a key role against Liverpool, putting in a performance which compared favourably to a star of Newcastle's rivals Sunderland, Lee Cattermole.
|Won Tackles||Interceptions||Passing Accuracy||Ball Recoveries||Fouls||Aerial Duels Won||Successful Final Third Passes|
Abeid won more tackles and completed a higher percentage of his passes than the Sunderland man, matching each other in terms of interceptions and ball recoveries.
Remarkably the pair made only three passes in the final third combined, which says everything about their discipline in terms of sticking to their assigned defensive midfield roles.
Cattermole made four fouls during Sunderland's win at Crystal Palace, booked for his troubles, but was superior in terms of winning three more aerial duels than Abeid.
Frenchman Abeid was making only his first Premier League start of the season, and to look so impressive against a side as talented as Liverpool says everything about his progress.
More than holding his own in comparison against Sunderland star Cattermole, the fixture on December 21 when the pair could go head to head is not to be missed.
