Manchester United and Liverpool youngsters are among those nominated for a prestigious award.

Manchester United’s James Wilson and Liverpool’s Jordan Rossiter have both been nominated for the MBNA Northwest Football Awards Rising Star Award.

The two players are joined by Everton’s Ross Barkley, Blackburn Rovers’ Tom Cairney, Manchester City’s Marcos Lopes and Preston North End’s Josh Brownhill.

Wilson came to prominence last season when United’s then-interim manager Ryan Giggs gave the young striker his debut in a Premier League match against Hull City.

Wilson wasted no time making his mark, scoring two goals in a 3-1 win and revealing his impressive talents to the wider footballing community.

Rossiter made his debut for Liverpool this season in a League Cup match against Middlesbrough, and just like Wilson the Reds’ midfielder netted on his first senior outing, opening the scoring in a match the Reds ultimately won on penalties.

Huge things are expected of both players, with United and Liverpool clearly rating them by given them debuts while both players are still at an age when most teenagers are focusing solely on their A Levels.

Everton’s Barkley is likely to be the favourite for the award, but Wilson and Rossiter both have huge futures ahead of them and that can only be good news for both United and Liverpool fans.
