Two goals from Steven Fletcher moved Sunderland out of the Premier League relegation zone with a 3-1 win at Crystal Palace on Monday night.
The visitors survived a penalty shout within the opening 25 seconds when Santiago Vergini brought down former Black Cats striker Frazier Campbell, but they then took the lead on 31 minutes when Fletcher headed home from a Patrick van Aanholt cross.
Palace equalised 10 minutes into the second-half, however, when substitute Wes Brown sent the ball into his own net - the fourth own goal Gus Poyet's side had conceded in the space of 16 days - after debutant Costel Pantilimon had made a superb save to deny Marouane Chamakh.
But with 11 minutes to go, Jordi Gomez regained the advantage with a driving low shot from outside the area, before Palace were reduced to 10 men just before the end after Mile Jedinak kicked out at the Spanish midfielder to earn a second yellow.
Sunderland then made the game safe deep into added-time when Fletcher netted his fourth of the season to secure the the club only their second league victory of the campaign, and their first on Monday night since 2002.
After previously conceding 10 goals in back-to-back defeats, the result was certainly much-needed, with the following images some of the best from a night which the team will now hope can spark a turnaround.
