Arsenal managed to contrive to throw away a 3-0 lead against Anderlecht, much to the chagrin of supporters.
The Gunners now sit five points behind group leaders Borussia Dortmund, with only two games to go in the group.
Their late collapse to draw 3-3 saw former Chelsea and current Everton striker Romelu Lukaku chirp up with delight at his former side Anderlecht claiming a point, commenting on Twitter.
Hahaha Anderlecht well done boysssss!! #COYM— R.Lukaku Bolingoli10 (@RomeluLukaku9) November 4, 2014
He was not the only one, fellow Belgian international and Spurs ace Jan Vertonghen celebrated when Aleksandr Mitrovic struck the 90th minute equaliser.
Former Tottenham forward Gary Lineker also revelled in the club's misfortune, poking fun at celebrity Gooner Piers Morgan, with ex-Spurs chairman Lord Sugar chiming in.
Great to see that your boys ground out a point @piersmorgan— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) November 4, 2014
"@piersmorgan: A new low. 3-0 up...last 16 place guaranteed...and we throw it away. Disgraceful.....my heart bleeds so sorry— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) November 4, 2014
It's a tough pill for Arsenal to swallow, but they must remember their demise is only celebrated and only noted because of their high standing in the first instance.
In addition to poor defending, the Gunners biggest downfall was complacency, and they will be on added guard not to make the same mistake again. That is not to say it won't happen, but Arsene Wenger will surely be working round the clock to ensure there is no repeat any time soon.
