Carragher suggested it was pointless for the team to look back on last season and try to replicate that success.
“There’s a lot of talk about Suarez – Forget about it, forget it – Liverpool need to work with what they have now,” said the Anfield favourite.
One of the reasons attributed to why Liverpool have struggled this season is the fact they sold their best player last summer, as Luis Suarez linked up with Barcelona.
The Reds tried to replace him with the £16 million capture of Mario Balotelli from AC Milan, but it hasn’t worked out with the Italian having scored just two goals so far in his Liverpool career.
Liverpool haven’t been helped this season by injuries to key players, which has forced Rodgers into using different teams and systems when he would have hoped for a more settled approach to the side across all competitions.
So how exactly do Liverpool forget about Luis Suarez and move on?
Firstly, they need a couple of wins to create some momentum and breed a winning mentality into the team.
Secondly, they need Daniel Sturridge back as quickly as possible because he’s arguably the best striker at the club although he hasn’t played since he was injured during the first international break of the season.
Thirdly, they need Balotelli to start scoring goals and hitting the back of the net frequently and the Bernabeu this evening wouldn’t be a bad place to start.
