Jamie Carragher has laughed off suggestions Steven Gerrard could follow Frank Lampard by signing with Manchester City.
The Mail reported over the weekend that Gerrard is a target for Manchester City, after the Liverpool captain admitted there is still a little uncertainty over his future, yet to sign a new contract.
City signed Frank Lampard in the summer on a loan deal after his long association with Chelsea, but Carragher believes there is no chance of his former teammate following suit.
Asked about the possibility on SkySports Monday Night Football, he responded:
"No, I don't think he would. I don't think Steven Gerrard would move to another English club.
"What Frank Lampard's done, don't forget he was at West Ham, he moved to Chelsea.
"I think being a local lad, Liverpool all his career, if he did move on I think may be abroad, may be the States, maybe in Europe who knows, but I'm convinced he's going to stay at the club.
"I think that (the new contract) will all get sorted out in the next couple of weeks."
A resolution to the matter would be welcome, because even though Gerrard's form has suffered along with the rest of the side this season, last year he was absolutely key in their title push.
Manager Brendan Rodgers needs to get the best out of him and not push him closer to the exit door, and renewing his deal, even if only for another 12 months is the smart move.
