Arsenal morning news: Walcott contract talks, Wenger wants first place

A round up of news stories this morning about Arsenal.

Arsenal midfielder Theo Walcott is thought to be in talks with the club over a new contract.

Walcott, who earns £90,000 per week, was in the headlines on a daily basis the last time his representatives talked over a new deal with the Gunners.

Fingers crossed negotiations aren’t as drawn out as they were two years ago.

Arsene Wenger has stressed the importance of the club finishing first in their Champions League group.

Second place would mean a potentially very difficult game in the last 16 knock out round.

“I don't know exactly how it is in the group, but it is always better you finish first because in some way you feel guilty if you don't finish first,” Wenger told the press.

Arsene Wenger hinted at a sickness bug affecting his squad in the build up to the game against Anderlecht.

Jack Wilshere misses the match because he’s been ill with the problem leading up to the game.

“We had nobody else sick. Ramsey last week, and Wilshere as well. He [Wilshere] has been sick and will not be involved tomorrow. Everybody else is exactly the same who played against Burnley [on Saturday],” said Wenger.
