Newcastle United winger Gabriel Obertan is likely to be ruled out until at last next year after suffering a thigh injury on the weekend, according to reports.
Obertan was forced off in the 27th-minute of Saturday's 1-0 home win over Liverpool after going down unchallenged, and the club are currently assessing what has been deemed a 'serious' injury to his upper thigh.
With some suggestions that the Frenchman could be out for five months, the news comes as a bitter blow during the club's recent up-turn in form, which has seen Alan Pardew's side claim four successive victories.
Obertan has been arguably the team's best performer during that run after coming back into the line-up, and Pardew admitted after the game on Saturday that is impact would be missed.
'Losing Obertan to what looks like a serious injury is a massive blow for him and for us,' he said.
'He has been a big part of what we have done in this period.'
