Newcastle's Gabriel Obertan could be out until 2015 after suffering thigh injury

Reports claim the thigh injury Newcastle United winger Gabriel Obertan picked up in Saturday's 1-0 win over Liverpool could rule the winger out until at least the turn of the year.

Newcastle United winger Gabriel Obertan is likely to be ruled out until at last next year after suffering a thigh injury on the weekend, according to reports.

Obertan was forced off in the 27th-minute of Saturday's 1-0 home win over Liverpool after going down unchallenged, and the club are currently assessing what has been deemed a 'serious' injury to his upper thigh.

With some suggestions that the Frenchman could be out for five months, the news comes as a bitter blow during the club's recent up-turn in form, which has seen Alan Pardew's side claim four successive victories.

Obertan has been arguably the team's best performer during that run after coming back into the line-up, and Pardew admitted after the game on Saturday that is impact would be missed.

'Losing Obertan to what looks like a serious injury is a massive blow for him and for us,' he said.

'He has been a big part of what we have done in this period.'
