The fact that Luke Shaw waited 24 hours to reveal his thoughts regarding the Manchester derby may have said it all regarding his disappointment.
The Manchester United left-back played in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City and has since sent a message to his Twitter followers, writing, "Gutted we couldn't get anything from the game. Was always going to be a tough second half but the United fans were insane as always."
Shaw was part of a United defence that was chopped and changed throughout the encounter, first when Chris Smalling saw red for a foolish challenge that earned him a second booking and later when Marcos Rojo went off injured.
As a result, United finished the match with Shaw as the side's most experienced defender, alongside teenager Paddy McNair, midfielder Michael Carrick and winger Antonio Valencia.
Louis van Gaal's side had their chances to snatch a late equaliser but it was not to be and Shaw is clearly disappointed to have left the Etihad Stadium without at least a point for their efforts.
"Gutted" is likely to be the word of the moment at Old Trafford but they must turn that disappointment around and use it to their advantage in the games to come, because they are showing promise, and that is not something that could be said for large parts of last season.
