West Ham duo set for shock England call-ups - report

But Stewart Downing could be overlooked yet again.

Aaron Cresswell could be set for an England call-up, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Roy Hodgson is set to announce his squads for the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia and friendly versus Scotland on Thursday - and could include West Ham left-back Cresswell for the game against the Scots.

The call-up would come as a surprise, although it would be very understandable given the 24-year-old's recent form in the Premier League.

However, what would be more of a shock is something else the report hints at - a reward for Mark Noble's loyalty to the Hammers.

The duo would be in the frame for the Scotland game as Hodgson has previously stated he intends to give fringe players a chance in that particular fixture.

Aaron Cresswell 10 9 6 15 10 900

As Opta stats show, the duo have shone for West Ham United so far this season - both in a defensive capacity and in terms of their crossing and number of chances created.

An call-up to the Three Lions squad, then, would be just reward, although it is only a rumour at this stage.

Perhaps equally surprising is the fact that Stewart Downing still appears to be out of the England picture, although Hodgson may still opt to select him for the Slovenia game - who knows?
