Nicolas Anelka has smashed home a beauty for Mumbai City.
Nicolas Anelka recently found himself a new club, several months after the debacle that saw him leave previous club West Brom.
But after he scored a goal for the club against West Ham in December of last year he performed a controversial celebration.
His ‘quenelle’ gesture was deemed anti-Semitic and he was given a five game ban by the FA - when he was told to apologise by West Brom he refused, cancelled his contract via Twitter before the club officially confirmed he had been fired in March.
So Anelka remained without a club since February, until earlier in the month, when he finalised a move to play in the Indian Super League.
The likes of Freddie Ljungberg, Luis Garcia and Robert Pires are already signed up for the mini-competition and Anelka joined that growing list of former Premier League stars by joining Mumbai City.
And today he scored his first goal for the club. The former Arsenal and Chelsea man smashed home a fantastic free-kick for Mumbai as they defeated the Kerala Blasters 1-0 this afternoon - Anelka's strike therefore proving the winner.
It may be a long time since he ran the channels for Arsenal or top-scored for Chelsea, but there is still plenty of talent in those boots.
