Mats Hummels is very, very unlikely to leave Borussia Dortmund in January, but could Manchester United sign him next summer?
The Germany international defender’s latest comments suggest that they can, but only if the Premier League outfit are able to convince him that he will have fun at Old Trafford.
‘I’ve always said Dortmund’s way of playing perfectly fits my ideas on the game’, the 25-year-old told World Soccer when asked when and how another club could tempt him.
‘When making a judgement on the best club for me, I think more about having fun than joining a team which is supposed to be better. If a so-called big club comes in for me and I don’t think I can express myself with them, there’s no point considering it’.
Hummels is one of the best centre-backs in the world and has developed massively under Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp.
Signing the former Bayern Munich defender next summer will certainly make United a much better team, but it appears that neither money nor prestige will affect the player’s decision on his future.
United are a bigger club than Dortmund, but can they be more fun to play for Hummels than the German club?
