Manchester United boss admits he was not happy with Chelsea result

Louis Van Gaal says the draw with Chelsea was not good enough last weekend.

Manchester United take on Manchester City in a local derby this afternoon, with United heading into the fixture full of confidence after arguably their best performance under Louis van Gaal last weekend.

They ended up drawing with Chelsea 1-1 at Old Trafford but pushed the league leaders and title favourites all the way in a tight contest. Robin van Persie won them the game with a last minute strike - but they earned many a plaudit for how close they pushed Jose Mourinho's men at Old Trafford.

Today they will need to put in a similar performance against a quality, if not slightly out of touch, City side.

But Van Gaal does not want a repeat of a week ago.

The Manchester United boss was discussing the Chelsea game earlier in the week. The Dutchman, despite seeing praise for the draw, said he was not happy with the final result in that tie.

He told his media conference:

“We are waiting on that boost because that can give you more than only the result. We have played very well against West Brom and we played a draw against Chelsea, nobody expected that result but for me it was not enough. Maybe the result against Manchester City shall give us that boost.”

That winning mentality is the one United fans want to hear from Van Gaal - who will take nothing but victory against their fierce rivals this afternoon.
