'I didn't expect him to do that' - Arsene Wenger taken aback by Arsenal star Sanchez

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger admits he was pleasantly surprised by the manner of Alexis Sanchez's goal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he was pleasantly surprised by the way Alexis Sanchez scored the club's opener against Burnley.

Alexis Sanchez rose to head home from inside the box, connecting with Calum Chambers' cross.

The Gunners manager told the club website: "It was an English goal. Did I expect that? Not really.

"I didn’t count on him in the air at all but I know by experience it’s more about desire. He has that and he’s a winner.

"He finds the resources to get you a goal when it’s 0-0, that’s what is important."

Sanchez went onto score another, bringing his tally to seven in the Premier League and 10 in all competitions for the club.

He became only the third Arsenal player this season to score a header, alongside Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud.

It shows yet another dimension to his play, and poses a threat for defenders where previously they may have underestimated him, and Wenger must be delighted with his new signing.

Arsenal have now won three consecutive games in all competitions since their 2-2 draw with Hull, and will be looking to make it a fourth when they host Anderlecht in midweek.

They sit fourth in the Premier League table, yet remain nine points behind early runaway leaders and rivals Chelsea.
