Javi Garcia was the hero as Zenit St Petersburg defeated CSKA Moscow.
Manchester City splashed out £15.8 million on the defensive midfielder Javi Garcia. The Real Madrid graduate had been performing wonders in Portugal with Benfica and City hoped he would continue that form in Manchester.
Early signs were good. He scored on his debut against Stoke City, but he began to falter and struggled to get regular first-team football at The Etihad.
With the arrival of Fernando effectively the death knell for his City career he got a move this summer. Andre Villas-Boas liked the look of the Spaniard and Zenit St Petersburg snapped him up for £13 million.
And he has certainly had a good start to his career in Russia - which reached its high point on Saturday.
Zenit were taking on perhaps their main title rivals CSKA Moscow in the Russian Premier League, needing a win to banish the memories of a shock cup upset in the week.
A win they got - courtesy of a Garcia goal.
His back post tap-in was his third goal of the season for Zenit - meaning he has already bettered his tally for City in 71 games in just 12 appearances.
Not bad for someone who is essentially a Manchester City pass-off.
