The Daily Mail claims Liverpool face a race against time to get Steven Gerrard tied down to a deal, which should see him retire at Anfield.
Several reports this morning have suggested that Brendan Rodgers has no problem with the club offering the Liverpool captain a new contract, but the Mail has pointed out a potential problem.
“If Liverpool do not speak to Gerrard in the next two months, he would be able to begin talks about moving elsewhere on a Bosman from January 1,” reports the Mail.
However, surely the issue of Gerrard’s new contract is a formality due to his status and relationship with officials and fans at the club.
Speculation over Gerrard’s future has been created by an interview he gave last week where he suggested that he’d consider leaving Liverpool if the club didn’t offer him a new deal.
Brendan Rodgers definitely hasn’t lost his marbles and Liverpool fans should feel safe over their chances of retaining their midfield icon.
