The French winger is set for another spell on the sidelines with a nasty looking thigh injury.
Times have been tough at Newcastle United in recent weeks. But a recent turnaround in form has given fans hope that Alan Pardew is going to turn things around.
One reason behind this success has been the renaissance of winger Gabriel Obertan.
The gangly Frenchman has bags of talent. We know this. That is why Sir Alex Ferguson splashed out around £3 million to sign him from Bordeaux in 2009.
His career never took off at Old Trafford, and in 2011 Newcastle United added him to their growing French contingent.
However he has struggled on Tyneside and in the summer was even told he can leave by Alan Pardew. But in desperate times the manager turned to the trickster, who has not let him down.
One of the reasons behind his poor form is his terrible injury record.
Unfortunately, just as things were looking up for the French flyer, it looks like he is set to miss a long period of time with injury.
Obertan has suffered a nasty looking thigh injury in the early kick-off against Liverpool.
He charged down the right in pursuit of Dejan Lovren before suddenly halting and crumpling into a heap on the floor.
Early reports indicate that Obertan may have suffered a ruptured thigh muscle, leaving him out of action for several weeks.
The Frenchman will though have no doubt how much he has changed the opinion of Newcastle's fans this month. As he was stretchered off, unable to straighten his afflicted limb, he received a standing ovation from the Newcastle faithful.
Hopefully he will be back in action sooner rather than later.
