Neil Redfearn has finally been officially confirmed as the permanent head coach at Leeds United in Yorkshire’s worst kept secret.
Redfearn replaces Darko Milanic and Leeds fans will be hoping he can get the side playing passionate and exciting football, which is similar to the brand they showed in his first spell in charge as caretaker earlier this season.
Negotiations over Redfearn’s deal have reportedly been ongoing for much of the past week, with the boss seeking guarantees in his contract in case owner Massimo Cellino decides at some point in the season that he’s not the man to lead the side.
Redfearn has built his reputation at Leeds on the positive way he’s handled the academy and he has the assurance that he can go back to his old role, if he’s relieved of things as head coach.
The ultimate aim for Leeds by the end of the season is promotion into the Premier League and a good run of results for Redfearn should see Leeds into the Championship play-off places.
There are a lot of teams fighting in and around the top six places and Leeds certainly have the squad to stay in that group, once they get there, with a busy winter period dawning on the club.
Redfearn has been extremely complimentary of Cellino throughout the whole process who has maintained that ‘Redders’ is an exciting coach and well equipped to push Leeds on over the course of the season.
Redfearn’s appointment will also be welcome news to plenty of youngsters at the club who feel they are close enough and good enough to get a first team chance under the new boss over the next couple of months.
