Cellino going nowhere - Leeds United Red Bull takeover talk rubbished

Red Bull

It is believed Massimo Cellino is hoping to get investment from the Austrian sports drink company.

It is being reported today that Leeds United may be in line for a takeover. In a Daily Mail 'exclusive' it is reported that energy drink giant Red Bull are interested in buying the club.

The Austrian company have made plenty of moves into the sporting market over the years. They are of course a name synonymous with Formula 1. They are also heavily involved in extreme sports such as skateboarding, surfing and snowboarding.

But they have always tried to make moves into football over the years.

They own the New York Red Bulls franchise in MLS, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and have recently helped a Leipzig based side fly up the German football ladder with investment, RB Leipzig are now playing in 2.Bundesliga.

Leeds were reported this morning as being next.

The report claimed that Red Bull chiefs are in Leeds, and have been since Wednesday, trying to 'wrestle control' of Leeds from controversial owner Massimo Cellino.

That report has now been rubbished in some quarters. Simon Austin, a freelance journalist who specialises in Leeds United, Tweeted this earlier today - which contains some explicit language...

He spoke to Massimo Cellino this week for The Sun so is certainly a man in the know.

It therefore appears that Cellino is looking for a lucrative partnership with Red Bull, which would certainly be welcomed by fans as the investment would be massive, but the Italian currently has no plans to get some wings and fly away from the Yorkshire giants.
