Arsenal and Liverpool linked striker scores overhead kick - 5 goals in 3 games

Gonzalo Higuain is back on great form at Napoli.

Last summer it was one of those transfer rumours that simply would not go away - Gonzalo Higuain.

The Argentine striker began a war for his services when he announced he wanted to depart Real Madrid - and it looked as though Arsenal had their man.

But when Arsenal decided they actually wanted Liverpool star Luis Suarez, Napoli swooped in to take the striker to Serie A as a replacement for Edinson Cavani.

Now it is rumoured that both Arsenal and Liverpool are keen on his signature in January.

With Arsenal still lacking in striking options and Liverpool fans already sick of Mario Balotelli it is easy to see how one plus one might have made three.

Of course these rumours have been dismissed by the player, club and even his brother joined in with the denials last week.

However Higuain has struggled for form at Napoli this season. The Argentine has not performed to his usual high standards - and did not score in Serie A until last weekend, ending a six month wait.

But now he has scored one he just can't stop.

He scored a hat-trick in that game against Verona last weekend. He then scored, but also missed a penalty in midweek. Today he banged another one in against AS Roma in Serie A - as Napoli defeated their rivals 2-0.

It was also a wonderfully taken finish. The ball deflected into the area and Higuain used his athleticism to pull of an impressive overhead kick.

It takes a happy Higuain to five goals in three games and looking back to his best.

But don't expect him to pop up at Arsenal or Liverpool any time soon.
