Tottenham Hotspur morning news: Spurs scout another defender, Vertonghen on belief

A round up of news stories this morning about Tottenham Hotspur.

The Daily Star claims Tottenham scouted Bayer Leverkusen defender Omer Toprak.

The 25-year-old is reportedly being watched by several teams from the Premier League.

It would be a remarkable signing considering deals for Eric Dier and Federico Fazio last summer.

Jan Vertonghen wants Tottenham Hotspur’s cup run to inject some belief into the team.

Spurs were solid 2-0 winners earlier this week as they secured a place in the last eight of the League Cup.

“At Ajax, the problem was after six or seven years you lose a bit of the belief of winning trophies. The first one there for me was the FA Cup of Holland and we would win a couple of leagues in a row. You then start believing in yourself that you are able to do it. Winning the Capital One Cup would 100 per cent give us the belief,” said the defender.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto is preventing a move to Queens Park Rangers or Crystal Palace.

The left-back is reportedly asking for too much money, as he considers life away from White Hart Lane.

He has reportedly been training along in France.
