Napoli, Barcelona, Roma, Spartak Moscow and Sevilla stars all feature.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has always maintained that he keeps his eyes wide open in relation to the transfer market, as he mulls over ways to improve his squad each transfer window.

Arsenal are in need of one or two players in key positions, with a centre-back and a holding midfield man thought to be among Wenger’s winter priorities ahead of the second half of the season.

We’ve looked at five top names linked with joining the club this week.

Gonzalo Higuain (AS Napoli)

Higuain was linked with Arsenal in the summer and those links have been maintained throughout the season so far. The Daily Star claims that Arsenal have already opened talks with the player and his representatives over a January move.

Pedro (Barcelona)

This is one of the more recent transfer rumours which has started to gather a little pace. Pedro would be a superb addition on Arsenal’s left hand side although it’s unclear whether Barca will let him leave, as they are unable to sign a replacement until 2016.

Mattia Destro (Roma)

Destro was linked with Arsenal before they bought Danny Welbeck and those links don’t appear to have gone away. The Italian has refused to rule out the possibility of leaving the Serie A giants this winter.

Romulo (Spartak Moscow)

Romulo is one of several holding midfield players the club have been linked with signing this past week. The proposed deal would see striker Yaya Sanogo heading in the other direction, with Arsenal also having to pay a reported fee of around the £9.5 million mark.

Grzegorz Krychowiak (Sevilla)

Another of the holding midfielders being linked with the club and one of the more left field rumours from this week. He featured in Poland’s win against Germany and only cost the Spanish team around £4 million so he already ticks a lot of boxes for Wenger.
