FC Schalke, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Marseille and Trabzonspor stars all feature.
Manchester United are in the fortunate position that they can afford to sign top transfer targets without the luxury of the Champions League to fall back on this season.
United’s commercial network around the world means Louis van Gaal’s club can go after top players and are able to afford the huge fees, which are commonly attached to players they’re reportedly interested in.
We’ve looked at the top five players to be linked with moves to Manchester United over the past week.
Julian Draxler (FC Schalke)
Arsenal’s failure to do a deal means that Manchester United can still step in and try and pull off a transfer for the talented German. Draxler is rated as one of the best attacking prospects in Europe though United may have a better chance of getting him if they secure Champions League football next year.
Gerard Pique (Barcelona)
United have an obvious connection with Pique because he used to play for them. They remain linked with a possible winter swoop although the Spaniard has indicated that he would like to retire at the Nou Camp despite his struggles this season.
Joao Miranda (Atletico Madrid)
An alternative defender to Pique is Miranda, who was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea last summer. United have the resources to be able to go after him and he fits in with the style of player van Gaal seems to be looking for at the moment.
Gianelli Imbula (Marseille)
Imbula is considered an alternative to Paul Pogba for United in various reports. He’d also cost substantially less than the ex-United man, with reports claiming a fee in the region of £25 million.
Abdul Majeed Waris (Trabzonspor)
Waris is one of the weirdest rumours associated with Manchester United from the past week. However, United assistant Ryan Giggs is widely reported to have scouted him personally, which suggests the initial stages of very realistic interest from the Old Trafford club.
