Steven Gerrard: Liverpool teammate Mario Balotelli works hard in training

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says that teammate Mario Balotelli is different from how he is perceived by the media.

Mario Balotelli is not always perceived as a hard-working individual on the football pitch, but the Liverpool striker gives his all in training.

Often found strolling around and cutting a frustrating figure during matches, the 24-year-old Italy international works hard in training.

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard said: ‘He is working hard, doing extra shooting sessions.

‘I’ve actually been impressed the way he goes about his work. You hear all kinds of stories and rumours before you meet him, but he does all the work. I like the guy’.

Gerrard works with Balotelli day after day, and he would know better than most how his teammate is like as a person.

Balotelli’s performances this season have been truly underwhelming, and criticisms levelled at him have been largely fair.

However, it would be wrong to suggest that he ‘does not care’ or ‘does not try’. Perhaps Balotelli fails to execute his ideas on the pitch and perhaps he has always been overhyped, but the former Manchester City star does try his best.

Gerrard’s comments prove that.
