Manchester City forward Stevan Jovetic has insisted that Manchester United will not head into Sunday’s derby as the favourites.
The two sides will take on each other at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
City and United have both been struggling in recent matches, and the first Manchester derby of the season has assumed huge importance.
Heading into this weekend’s round of matches, Manuel Pellegrini’s Citizens find themselves third in the Premier League table with 17 points from nine matches.
The defending English champions have one of the strongest teams in England, but they have lost their last two matches.
A 2-1 away defeat to West Ham United in the Premier League was followed by a 2-0 home loss to Newcastle United in the fourth round of the League Cup on Wednesday, but Jovetic is confident of picking up all three points against United.
‘I don't think so’, PA quotes the 24-year-old as saying when asked if United will be favourites to win Sunday’s match.
‘Confidence cannot go away in two games. We are all very good players. Every one of us has big confidence and we just need to show that on Sunday.
‘If you win the derby it is going to be much easier and we are going to forget (the Newcastle) game. I am sure this is going to be the last game we play like this. I am sure we are going to show our real face against United’.
United have not fared that well in recent matches either. Louis van Gaal’s side have picked up just five points from three matches this month and are currently eighth in the league table with 13 points from nine games.
