Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore believes that the return of Theo Walcott will be a massive boost to Arsenal, but claims that the North London club will not win any major trophy this season.
Writing in Bleacher Report, the ex-England international explained: ‘I don't think losing Mesut Ozil will hurt them, based on his poor form, and the return of Theo Walcott will make a big difference. He's great on the counter and should dovetail very nicely with Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez.
‘I think Arsenal will finish in the top four, but they won't win anything this season. Will that satisfy their fans? I don't think so’.
Germany international playmaker Mesut Ozil’s absence has been played down by many football pundits, and there is a certain logic to it.
The former Real Madrid playmaker was largely disappointing this season before his injury, and he was played on the wing most of the time anyway.
The imminent return to match action of forward Walcott is going to be a boon, but one needs to remember that the 25-year-old will not be able to reach his best rightaway.
Even without Ozil and Walcott, Arsenal have a strong and quality-laden squad that can finish in the top four of the Premier League.
Collymore’s assertions that Arsenal will not win any trophy this season may come a bit too early, but all signs at the moment suggest that he could be right.
But then again, last season Arsenal were also claimed to end up trophyless and they won the FA Cup.
Never say never.
