Rojo vs Mangala - Which club's summer signing has performed better?

Manchester City take on Manchester United this weekend in the Premier League, but which club's centre-back has made the better start in England?

Eliaquim Mangala's initial appearances in a Manchester City shirt have not impressed supporters of the club.

The centre-back has struggled to adapt to English football since a £32 million transfer from Porto over the summer and it appears, early on at least, that he may have been hugely overvalued.

Mangala has looked uncomfortable so far in a City shirt and West Ham United even admitted to be targeting the 23-year-old when they played against Manuel Pellegrini's side recently.

The task for Mangala gets no easier, though, as City have a crucial Manchester derby on the horizon.

The Citizens take on Manchester United knowing that anything other than three points could see them slip nine points behind Chelsea at this early stage of the season.

It is the sort of game which Mangala was brought for, as the side look to tighten up their backline, and, if he does play, he will need to ensure that any struggles he had previously are put to the back of his mind.

United have arguably the best attacking line-up in the division and Mangala is likely to be tested to the maximum in the game.

The Red Devils themselves, though, have been exposed defensively and one of their own summer signings will also be in for a challenge.

Marcos Rojo was purchased by Louis Van Gaal for £16 million over the summer and he has come straight into United's first-team.

However, despite Mangala's apparent struggles, he is still outperforming Rojo in nearly every area.

Marcos Rojo DF Man Utd 1.1 2.5 3 3.3 86.5% 2 6 540

The powerful centre-back has made more tackles, won more headers and has been more accurate with his passing the his Argentine counterpart.

Given Mangala's poor form this has to be a worry for United fans and they will be looking for an improvement from Rojo on Sunday.

The game itself may be decided by which porous defence proves to be the more sturdy and both teams will be relying on their big-money centre-backs to keep the opposition's obvious attacking threats at bay, as they search for the three points.
