Paul Scholes has warned Manchester United defender Luke Shaw of the test he faces against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
The England international is likely to be deployed at left-back in the Premier League clash, meaning that he will be up against one of the best right-backs in the world.
Shaw will be facing Argentina international Pablo Zabaleta, who is one of the most complete full-backs in the modern game.
City attacking midfielder David Silva has been ruled out of the Manchester derby with a knee injury, but it is not going to make 19-year-old Shaw’s task any easier as star striker Sergio Aguero’s movement is going to create problems for the former Southampton youngster.
United legend Scholes believes that Shaw needs to be at his best against City and wrote in The Independent: ‘Silva is a brilliant creative player. Aguero can score a goal in a yard of space.
'Above all, Zabaleta epitomises City when they are at their best. He is relentless getting forward and a great defender too. For Shaw it will be one of the major tests of his first season at United, and one that he will wish to come through strongly’.
Shaw has yet to play the way he did at Southampton last season, but he has the faith of United manager Louis van Gaal and has looked solid so far this campaign.
Playing against one of the best and strongest teams in England will not be easy, of course, but Shaw has the potential to emerge out of the encounter against City a better and stronger player.
